11. Exporting projects

Pidoco allows you to download projects to your computer by exporting them into various file formats. The options are:

  • HTML: This option generates a zip file containing all the HTML pages of your project in the various preview modes, interlinked and ready to click through - basically a fully functional offline copy of your project as it would appear in the Simulation view. Use this option to save backup copies of the working prototype, e.g. for presentations or usability tests. Please note that you will have to unzip the file before using it.
  • PDF/RTF: This option generates a complete document that includes screenshots of the pages of your project, as well as further information, such as comments, meta information on interactions and stencils, layers and cross-references between layers and pages. You can choose which sections to include. Use the PDF version for documenting your project, e.g. for client or management sign-off or to hand over to the developers as requirements document. Use the RTF version if you expect to make edits or add information to the document.
  • PNG: This option generates a zip file containing screenshots of all the pages of your project in PNG format. Use this option if you want to save or print out screens or if you want to use the screens in other places. Please note that you will have to unzip the file before using it.
  • SVG: This option generates a zip file containing vector images of all the pages of your project in SVG format. Use this option if you need screenshots that scale without loss of quality. Please note that you will have to unzip the file before using it.

To export a project, go back to the Project view. Hover over the "Export" button in the toolbar and choose the desired file format. Let's try generating a PDF file. The "Export" dialog gives you a number of options. Select all pages and sections and confirm. The PDF file will be generated in the background and, once ready, will be presented for download. A notification at the top will tell you that the export has been started.
